Tension within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters in Orungo Constituency, Amuria District keeps growing after one person was shot dead and several others were left injured during a fight between supporters of the party flag bearer, Ms Teddy Anyuk Osiire and incumbent Hon. Jeje Abubakar Odongo.
According to reports, the deceased identified as 30 year old Saidi Eteru, was shot dead by security personnel attached to Jeje Odong on Thursday at Apasi Training Centre, where Teddy Osiire’s supporters had gathered for New Year celebrations.
Eyewitnesses report that violence broke out following a collision between security personnel attached to Gen. Jeje Odongo and supporters of Madam Teddy Anyuk.
“Two campaign radios and mobilization teams met at the training centre. This caused confusion, panic and disorganization among supporters, which later escalated into violence, the situation escalated when gunshots were fired, resulting in the death of one supporter and injuries to several others” an eyewitness said.
While addressing residents after arriving at the scene of chaos, the Amuria District RDC Mr. Paul Eseru, urged people to remain and avoid retaliation to allow security personnel carry out thorough investigations.
Eteru’s body has since been taken to hospital for post-mortem while several injured people were receiving treatment at nearby health facilities.
By the time of this publication, no arrest had been made on the probable officer who shot dead Eteru.
