Mwanga II Road Court has charged and remanded the Vice President of Ugandan North American Association (UNAA), Charles Bukenya Muvawala with computer misuse over recording the police and Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) officers beating National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters.

Muvawala was abducted by security personnel on Monday from Rubaga as he recorded the combined security operatives beating up and tear-gassing supporters.

According to the charge sheet, Muvawala shared unsolicited information contrary to section 26b (1) (2) of the computer misuse act cap 96.

“Bukenya Charles on the 15th day of December 2025 at Kabusu, Rubaga division in the Kampala district, filmed, photographed, recorded videos of the security personnel to wit police and UPDF ARMY, and sent or shared with other persons unsolicited information through a computer to which mobile phone without authority” the statement read.

However the charge of unsolicited information has been received with criticism from the members if the National Unity Platform (NUP), which he subscribes to.

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said the government is targeting Muvawala over his association with the party over which he was violently abducted, tortured and interrogated about his links with the Party in March this year.

“The ridiculousness never ends! So our comrade Charles Muvawala has been charged with “Unsolicited Information.” Particulars? That he recorded videos and took pictures of military and police officers while our Presidential Candidate @HEBobiwine campaigned in Rubaga on Monday and shared them with other persons who did not solicit for them” he posted.

The Party President Robert kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine said government was resorting to criminalising the recording of the military and police as they brutalise citizens following growing international condemnation over videos and pictures of the brutality meted out on people during campaigns.

“As laughable as it sounds, the regime claims that he recorded the videos and shared them with people who had not solicited them! More reason why our people must use their cameras to record every incident because even these criminals understand how effective it is. Ultimately, all that evidence will come in handy some time!” he said.

Muvawala has been remanded to Luzira Prison until December 23, when his case will come up again for mention before the court.
