There is heightened security in the districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo after panga wielding men carried out attacks in the districts in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to security sources, the yet to be identified panga wielding men attacked Kasese police Barracks around midnight for yet to be unknown reasons, leaving part of the barracks compound damaged.
In what security circles are describing as coordinated attacks, the group is said to have also attacked two Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) detachments at Kakuka and Malindi in Bundibugyo District.
However both attacks were foiled by the security personnel who killed five assailants and arrested several of the assailants in the twin attacks.

According to the Bundibugyo Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Rt. Maj John Mugabirwe, UPDF soldiers at Kakuka Detach managed to repel the attackers, killing five individuals who were dressed in plain clothes and armed with pangas.
Mugabirwe added that troops are still moving towards the Malindi Detachment to assess the situation there.
The twin attacks have led to a heightened security deployment across the two districts by both Police and the UPDF over fears of an ADF resurgence.
So far no injuries or causalities have been reported on the side of the armed forces during the twin attacks as investigations into the attacks begin.
