The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, President Yoweri Museveni has suspended his campaign trail in the Lango subregion where he has been traversing support for reelection in the 2026 national elections.
The announcement was made by the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong to the NRM District Chairpersons of Kole, Lira and Lira City who noted that the suspension was due to urgent state duties that required President Museveni’s attention.
“This is to notify you that the date for the Presidential Campaign Rallies that had been scheduled to take place on Monday October 6th, 2025 in Kole and Lira/Lira City has been adjusted” Todwong said.
He added, “This is due to HE the President’s need to attend to critical state duties on the set day. A new date shall be communicated to you soon”.
Todwong further urged the local area leaders to inform the general public in their respective districts about the adjustments accordingly.
The suspension of the Lango campaign trail marks the first major adjustment in President Museveni’s campaign calendar.
While campaigning in Kwania District, earlier in the day, Museveni urged the people of Lango sub-region to rally behind his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in next year’s elections, promising expanded infrastructure and wealth creation programs to accelerate the country’s transition to middle-income status. On Saturday, Presisent Museveni’s main rival in the race, National Unity Platform’s (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, resumed his campaign in Namayingo and Bugiri on Saturday after his team was blocked from holding a rally in Iganga Municipality the previous day.
