The Electoral Commission (EC) has closed nominations of candidates for Presidency in next year’s polls, with up to eight candidates from different political parties being duly nominated in the two day exercise at the commission headquarters at Lweza off Entebbe road.
The commission noted all candidates were nominated in accordance with the requirements of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179 in the exercise presided over by the EC chairperson and returning Officer for Presidential Nominations Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.
The eight candidates include NRM’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, National Peasants Party’s Robert Kasibante and Conservative Party’s Elton Joseph Mabirizi who were nominated on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, FDC’s Nandala Mafabi James Nathan was the first to be nominated followed by ANT’s Gen Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera, National Unity Platforms Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu, Common Man’s Party’ Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga and Bulira Frank Kabinga from the Revolutionary Peoples Party’s (RPP).


The Justice Byabakama commission noted that the Presidential Campaign Period will officially begin on 29th September 2025, after the harmonisation of candidates’ campaign programmes with the Commission.
Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party and the Revolutionary Peoples Party’s (RPP) Frank Bulira Kabinga were duly nominated 7th and 8th respectively after fulfilling the requirements of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.
