The National Unity Platform (NUP) has called for release of Sauda Madada who was arrested by the police in Busia district on Tuesday evening.
According to the party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Madada was arrested over a case file registered at Wandegeya Police station.
“We’ve been informed of the arrest of our sister Sauda Madaada by the police at Busia. When she inquired about why she was arrested, she was told that her file is at Wandegeya Police and that they will transfer her there” he posted on his X handle on Tuesday.
However it remains unclear what crime or charge she will be charged with when transferred back to Kampala.
NUP has in recent weeks come under a heavy crackdown by the security forces with many of their members being picked up by armed security agencies from different parts of the country.
On Tuesday Musician and Nakawa Division Mayor aspirant Ali Buken alias Nubian Li has been arrested shortly after his nomination for the post on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket before being driven around the city for hours and eventually taken back home at night.
On Monday, security operatives abducted NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, under similarly vague circumstances outside Kawempe Magistrate’s Court.
The whereabouts of Mufumbiro are still being kept under tight lips nearly 48 hours after his abduction.
Madada, a die-hard supporter of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) was last week nominated last week as an independent candidate for Kampala Central Woman Lord Councillor, becomes the latest NUP figure to be arrested in recent days.
Madada is also a member of the NUP security brigade, known for donning overalls and red belts while providing protection to party leaders during campaigns and events.
