The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire has revealed that at least three women were left nursing life threatening injuries after an explosion occurred at around 8:30 pm at Buziga Country Resort in Makindye Division on Sunday.
Owoyesigyire who made the remarks during the weekly presser at Naguru noted that eyewitnesses reported a loud blast followed by smoke and flames inside the sauna area.
“One of the victims, Hajjati Mastula,69 ,the vice chairperson for Katuuso village was the most affected and was found with severe burns on the chest and the back. Two other victims including Zahara Nakaweesi was burnt all over the body and broken leg while Mamrum Aisha had severe burns all over the body” he said.

Owoyesigyire added, “They were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital from where they were later transferred to Nsambya and Mulago Hospitals respectively”.
Owoyesigyire noted that no one died in the incident.
According to Owoyesigyire, preliminary investigations indicate that there was excessive damage with part of the structure housing the sauna collapsing while the remaining walls developed cracked and the entire premises were scattered with debris of scattered broken glasses.
“At this stage, no arrests have been made. The scene remains cordoned off for a thorough forensic examination, which is expected to provide more clarity on the cause of the explosion. The Police assure the public that inquiries are ongoing, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. We continue to work closely with medical facilities to monitor the condition of the victims and extend our support to their families” Owoyesigyire said.
