20 Kisoro District Officials Face Arrest over Theft of UGX 14 Million Agricultural Extension Fund

The Deputy Inspector General of Government (DIGG) Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, has ordered the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kisoro District Local Government, Mr. John Nyakahuma, to punish at least 20 officers who stole UGX 14,053,825 Agricultural Extension Fund.

According to a statement released by the Inspectorate of Government on Monday, the decision was reached after investigations conducted by the IG Kabale Regional Office found the officers guilty.

The fund was meant for extension activities in their respective Sub-counties and Town Councils for Quarter One of the FY 2023/2024.

According to investigations, 20 officials of the Production and Marketing Department, Kisoro District falsely accounted for part of the funds meant for agricultural extension activities for Quarter One of the FY 2023/2024.

Each of the 20 officers attached activity reports and receipts of accountabilities to the claims for refund.

Accountability documents were obtained upon verification, and receipts worth UGX14, 043,825 attached as accountability were found to be false.

In a separate communication, each of the officers has been directed to refund the money to the IG Assets Recovery Account held in the Bank of Uganda.

All the 20 officers who admitted to have forged and presented false accountabilities to claim for refund include;

Baryaruha Augustine, the Kisoro Assistant Fisheries Officer

Munezero Alice Agricultural Officer- Muramba SubCounty,

Nyirabuntu Lilian – Agricultural Officer Chahi Sub County,

Kampire Jolly Assistant Veterinary Officer Nyakinama SubCounty,

Arinaitwe Dinah –Assistant Veterinary Officer Chaihi Sub County,

Sunday Amon –Veterinary Officer Muramba Subcounty,

Ndashimye Barnabas –Veterinary Officer Nyundo-Sub County,

Sabiti Alex – Agricultural Officer Nyundo Sub County,

Tumwizere Edward – Agricultural Officer Nyabwishenya Sub-County,

Nkurunziza Robert – Agricultural Officer Murora Sub County

Byiringiro Thomas- Veterinary Officer Nyarubuye Sub County,

Barikudembe Stephen –Agricultural Officer Kirundo SubCounty,

Sebahire Aron – Veterinary Officer Kanaba Sub County,

Mrs. Twinomugisha further urged all public officers to desist from actions that could compromise their integrity, and uphold the professional ethics while executing their duties.
