The Uganda Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke has revealed that the police in Luweero district has arrested a 26 year old electrician over allegedly vandalizing wires from four electricity poles.

In a statement via his X account, Kituuma noted that the suspect was arrested from Kireku Parish, Kikyusa Sub county after church goers found electricity wires on the ground on Sunday following a power blackout in the area the previous night.

“One affected resident, in Ssenyomo Zone A, experienced a power outage initially assumed to be normal load shedding. The following morning, churchgoers discovered wires on the ground, and residents confirmed the vandalism of four poles, the incident was reported to Kikyusa Subcounty Police Station” he noted.

Kituuma said police investigations led to the arrest of Katamba Charles, a 26-year-old electrician residing in Kiwanguzi Zone, Kireku Parish.

“He was found to have made illegal electricity connections at his home and several neighboring premises. During a search, stolen electric wires were recovered from his residence”.

Kituuma noted that such incidents pose a broad challenge to electricity infrastructure and called on the public to join the forces anti vandalism operations.

“Be vigilant and report any suspicious activities near electrical facilities, especially people working without proper identification or official vehicles, performing work at unusual hours, or carrying suspicious tools” he noted.
