The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has charged and remanded the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Human Resource Manager Ms Jennifer Etit Okaka, over corruption, causing financial loss, and abuse of office.
Court heard that between June and November 2023, Okaka failed to update the authority’s payroll system to remove a staff member who had resigned, resulting in a financial loss of approximately UGX 17 million.
Prosecution told court that Irene Atukunda Kagume continued to receive her monthly salary and benefits despite having resigned from her position as a security assistant at UCAA.
The case is part of a broader crackdown on nine officials across various government agencies including UCAA facing charges related to a payroll scam that allegedly caused the state a UGX 53 billion loss.
Okaka has been remanded to Luzira Prison until August 14, 2025 when the case will come up again for mention.
