At least 19 traders have been killed and 13 others left with injuries after a Fuso truck they were traveling in overturned along the Hoima – Buliisa road in Kigorobya on Tuesday night.
According to the spokesperson of the Uganda Police Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety SP kananura Michael, the Fuso truck (UBB 639W) was carrying traders from Wanseko – Buliisa market but failed to ascend a slope at Kigorobya, rolled backward and overturned killing 19 people on the spot at about 11pm.
“The injured victims were rushed to various health facilities for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Hoima City Mortuary for postmortem examinations as investigations into the exact cause of the crash continue” he said.
Kananura further advised truck drivers to desist from carrying passengers on the back of trucks since they are not designed for human transportation.
