As the race for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) heats up, over 70 NRM women leaders from the 12 districts of Busoga sub region have endorsed 1st Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga’s bid to retain her position as the party’s 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female).
In a meeting held at Century Resort Hotel in Mayuge District on Thursday, the Busoga women’s forum put their weight behind Kadaga, to retain the seat she has held for years hailing her as a “pillar of women empowerment” and a “voice of the region” against Speaker Anita Among who is seeking to displace her.
Her re-election bid comes amid a high-stakes challenge from Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who has declared interest in unseating her.
Speaking during the endorsement, several women leaders cited Kadaga’s long standing service in championing gender equity, grassroots mobilization, and regional integration as reasons for their support.
“This is not just about politics. It is about loyalty, experience, and a legacy of service. Kadaga has stood with Busoga and Ugandan women for decades,” said one district leader during the closed-door event.
The Busoga endorsement is a major show of support for Kadaga as internal NRM contests heat up ahead of the 2025 party primaries.
It also sets the stage for what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive internal races within the ruling party.
