The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama has warned against the formation of youth brigades in tomorrow’s Elections under the coming Special Interests Groups elections noting that the youth groups are illegal.
“Forming vigilante groups like youth brigades is 𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐋 and risky. The Uganda Police Force ensures security during elections. Let’s avoid actions that cause tension” he said.
Byabakama added, “So far, we’ve successfully completed elections for Older Persons on June 16, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on June 17 and now, all eyes are on the Youth Elections happening 𝐓𝐎𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐖 – 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. This is a crucial moment for young people to step up, show up, and shape the future of our nation”.
Justice Byabakama said the country continues to uphold inclusive democratic participation through the ongoing SIGs elections.
“Older Persons & PWDs elections were peaceful with no major incidents. Youth, let’s keep the calm during your village elections on July 5, 2025. Line up, vote, and promote unity” he said.
Justice Byabakama revealed that the deadlines for Presidential Aspirants, LCV and MP candidates to verify their Academic documents by UNEB.
The deadline for Presidential Aspirants is August 1st, for MP Candidates is July 16th and for LCV is July 3rd 2025.
“Aspiring candidates for President, Parliament, or District Chairperson need A-Level or equivalent, verified 2 months before nomination,” reads the EC’s statement.
