The UPDF Ag Director Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi has revealed that the force was trailing the two suspected terrorists who were killed in an explosion as they rode on Boda boda towards the Munyonyo Matrys shrine.
In a post via his X account, Col Magezi said the duo were killed in an intelligence led operation by a UPDF counter terrorism unit in Munyonyo before they could reach their destination to detonate the bomb.
“The security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption. The general public is urged to remain calm but vigilant and report to the security services any suspicious individuals, objects or activities for immediate attention. One of the terrorists, female, was a suicide bomber laden with powerful explosives” Magezi posted on Tuesday.
The Police IGP Abas Byakagaba while addressing media at the scene urged the public to remain calm as sister agencies had the situation under control.
“There has been an explosion here but the most important message to our people is that they should remain calm we are in control, all the security forces are here present. We are just preserving this scene to ensure that it is well investigated, so far no bystander or people nearby have been injured or are dead apart from those who were on a motorcycle” he said.
