In Entebbe Municipality, the NRM party structure elections for both Division A and Division B were conducted peacefully without any disruption at children’s park approximately about 100 metres from statehouse Entebbe with the candidates contesting for different positions winning unopposed.
Mr Stephen Kabuye, who was once again voted the NRM chairperson in the municipality in Monday’s party structure elections advised the winners to ensure they serve the people and not themselves.
“The voting which has seen different sides agree has showed the residents of Entebbe have continued to show their maturity mind wise and I ask of you to continue voting the same way always. I inform all those that have been voted, that you haven’t been elected to individually benefit from the position but you have been voted to be servants of the people and ensure our NRM party develops further” he said.
Mr Kabuye further urged the losers in the elections to work together with the party to ensure the party’s victory in the coming elections.
“I ask you to be calm, we will not carry out this work when we are in conflicts, arguing or abusing each other, let our words to each other be friendly, even to those who don’t support us because when we treat each other well, they will also support us, let us look for the votes but in a respectful, peaceful way without violence like we have seen in other areas” he said.
Former Entebbe Municipality MP Ms. Rosemary Tumusiime said to avoid conflicts, the party members sat and agreed on who should vie for the different positions.
“The competition was there but most of the positions were taken through consensus, we know many people would like to get positions at the different levels which is not possible…. It has been a consensus up to the municipality level and we hope the same will continue upto the district, as elders in the party we think the only way to go if we are to win the primaries is to work together, in the past because of our internal conflicts people haven’t been able to win that position” she said.
Ms Tumusiime said as a party, they hope they won’t have independents as NRM.
