The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has revealed that he is set to release embatted former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among from house arrest, following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni.
Gen Muhoozi, made the revelation that could end months of restrictions imposed on the former speaker, who is facing charges into alleged corruption, accountability, illicit enrichment and money laundering.
“Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well” he posted.
He however noted that Among, will not face any criminal proceedings for the alleged crimes, following a pardon from Museveni.
“No. We shall not prosecute AAA. She made mistakes but Mzee has decided to forgive her” he said.
Muhoozi’s revelation comes days after the anti corruption court, committed the Director Communications at Parliament, Chris Obore and six other senior parliament officials to the high court to answer charges of embezzling public funds and money laundering.
The officials who were charged with embezzlement of more than UGX 30 billion; Mr. Adilo Daniel, Director Human Resource, Mr. Okema Leonard, Executive Secretary, Office of Speaker , Mr. Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer, Mr. Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer, Mr. Otebata Vincent, Capacity Development Officer, Mr. Murebe Methods, Chief Executive Officer, Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative Savings & Credit Society Ltd (SACCO).
In another twist of events, Gen Muhoozi has revealed that he is set to arrest his brother in law, Odrek Rwabwogo, and members of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Export and Industrial Development (PACEID), which he heads over alleged criminal activities.
“We have started arresting the criminals in PACEID. Mzee, has told me to get all of them!” he said.
Muhoozi has further warned all government agencies against working with PACEID, whose members he has accused of corruption in any way.
“ALL MDAs and local governments are directed to suspend all dealings with the criminal organisation, PACEID. Failure to do so will be handled accordingly” Muhoozi warned.
Rwabwogo, who is also the Senior Special Advisor to President Yoweri Museveni, recently openely condemned the recent vote rigging, bribery, ballot stuffing, shooting of voters, allegedly carried out by wrong army and NRM individuals in the general elections.
“There were also groups inside the movement in the last elections, dressed up in military uniforms, beating up people, invading polling stations in some of the constituencies, shooting and dispersing voters, and then openly doing ballot staffing” he said.
He added, “Some of these scenes were extremely disturbing for me to watch, other people lined up others and paid them to vote for them. No independent choice at all from citizens,….This is what happens when we undermine or when we lack a central uniting idea”.
However, by the time of this publication, he was yet to issue a statement on Gen Muhoozi’s arrest comments.
