President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that former National Resistance Army (NRA) freedom fighter leaders are set to receive UGX 5 million in compensation for their contribution to the war that brought the NRM government to power.
“We gave the husbands and wives separately because each of them was contributing as an individual, not just as a family. For other supporters who were not leaders, we sent UGX 1 million each. So, this Parish Development Model (PDM) money of UGX 1 million we’re talking about today actually started way back in 2008 — UGX 5 million for each leader, and UGX 1 million for every supporter.”
Mr Museveni made the remarks at the 36th Heroes Day Celebrations themed “The Legacy and Ideals of our heroes: a memorable inspiration” held in Kaliro Town Council, Lyantonde District on Monday.
President Museveni further committed to providing free medical health care for the ex NRA fighters.
“I have enriched Nakasero Hospital, I have told my people to put everything in Entebbe Grade B, so that my fellow fighters are treated there because the money we are spending in Nakasero is so much”
During the address, Mr Museveni condemned the rising illegal land evictions in the country and directed implementation of sub county policing model in greater Masaka.
