With just days left to the July 28th polling day for LCI and LC II Chairpersons elections across Uganda, several individuals seeking to occupy the seat, have devised different tactics of how they hope to win over the electorate.
Mr kakooza George William Musisi a journalist with Buganda Kingdom’s Central Broadcasting Service (CBS FM), based in Entebbe who is seeking to become the new LCI Nkumba Central, in Nkumba Parish, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District said he will employ the door to door campaign strategy to woe over the electorate.
“In the past, people used to hold big rallies, but basing on the just concluded national polls, the door to door strategy was more effective in passing on the candidate’s message to the individual voters” he said.
Mr Kakooza, who is running as an independent said the use of posters is still relevant in the race to ensure people easily identify their preferred candidate and also have a strong mobilisation team to ensure, the candidates message is passed on to everyone in the village.
He revealed that when elected into office, he promises to set up a new LC court to sort small claims which shall seat every Tuesday, emphasise General cleaning every first Saturday of the week and also encourage follow the Government general cleaning exercise every last Saturday of the month.
“Set up a Village common Comunication system to recieve new information daily, uplift sports and recreation entertainment,empower women entrepreneurs to get local saving groups, create a paralegal team to act as Village lawyers, to mention but a few” he said.
He further notes to create a council of Elders to guide and advise where necessary.
Mr Denis Magezi, who is vying for the Lugonjo – Nakiwogo LC 1 position in Entebbe Municipality, said he is looking at moving door to door through his village mates to easily identify with him and to deliver the message to voters.
“The lining of people behind their favourite candidate during the voting period is ideal, since its very transparent, the only issue would be the incumbents, getting people from outside to stay at the polling stations and then they lock the gate, leaving a number of voters out when lining up time approaches” he said.
The incumbent Kitooro Central LC 1 Chairperson Ms Betty Nkata Kaggwa, said the door to door approach will be more suited while campaigning for the vote, since she represents an area where the population mainly works in the area but doesn’t reside there.
“We will move from door to door scavenging for votes and also ensure the exact number of residents that reside in the area, even during the campaigns, we need to remind residents of the relevance of the local council offices like in solving simple cases at the LC courts, instead of rushing arrests, as used to be in the past” she said.
Mr Tadeo Mukiibi, who is running for the Lunyo Central LC 1, seat revealed that on top of the now popular door to door campaigns, fliers and posters, he has also deployed digital audio campaign messages which he intends to share with residents online.
“The digital audio campaign will allow for my message to repeatedly be heard, shared largely, and easily across the village and later on, it will be transformed into Lunyo Central community radio, which has been lacking in the area for effective communal communication” he said.
