The Police in Kole District are investigating a case of double murder of a traditional healer, who was lynched by an angry mob over the weekend, after a man died moments after taking a concoction prescribed by the healer.
According to the Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the incident occurred on June 13th in Otwonoipingi Cell, Akalo Town Council, which claimed two people identified as Ecom Ivan and Mary Oming.
“Preliminary information indicates that following a recent cattle theft incident, a traditional healer was invited to conduct rituals. During the process, Ecom Ivan reportedly collapsed and died. This sparked anger among community members, who allegedly attacked and killed the traditional healer” he said.
Kituuma said the mob also set ablaze two grass-thatched houses and a motorcycle.
“Police responded to the scene, documented the incident, recovered relevant exhibits, and conveyed the bodies to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations” he said.
ACP Kituuma said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.
“Police strongly condemn mob action in all its forms, such acts lead to further loss of life, destruction of evidence, and undermine the rule of law. Any person suspected of wrongdoing should be handled through lawful procedures and reported to the relevant authorities” he said.
