The Police have arrested the 11th suspect in the death of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates forward, Sydney Gongodyo who succumbed to injuries on Friday evening, following an alleged mob attack in Nakawa division.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, the suspect has been identified as Kabugo Henry, a 21-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Old Kira–Kisenyi.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that Kabugo Henry was captured in video footage of the incident wearing a blue reflector jacket and concealing his face with a black hood” she said

Kawala revealed that Kabugo was arrested in the Wandegeya area of Kampala in a joint operation involving Police and boda boda leadership from Nakawa Division.
“This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects currently in custody to 11 as investigations into the alleged mob killing continue” she said.
Kawala further commended the boda boda community for its cooperation and support in assisting law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend those involved in this criminal act.
“Efforts remain ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the incident” she said.
Kabugo’s arrest comes a day following the arrest of Mugwisa Obed, the prime suspect in the murder and Owino Joseph, a security guard.
Other suspects include Ssebagala Noordin, Ayebazibwe Roden, Namukose Juliet, Mondoni Elly, Twinomujuni Herbert, Katsigazi Perigrino, Tayebwa Darlious and Tugume Hannington.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was allegedly subjected to mob action by members of the public who accused him of snatching a woman’s handbag.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
Gongodyo succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7:00 p.m. at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he was rushed by police officers who responded to the scene for emergency medical treatment.
Gongodyo was laid to rest on Tuesday, June 9, at Buweri Town Council in Budadiri County, Sironko District.
