The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has pardoned Maj. Gen Don William Nabasa, the former UPDF Joint Staff for Policy and Strategy, after two months imprisonment over alleged corruption related offences.
Gen Muhoozi made the revelation through his X handle on Thursday afternoon, noting that the release followed, a long meeting with Gen Nabasa on the same day.
“I’m glad to announce after a long meeting with Maj. General Don Nabasa today I have decided to release him and drop all the charges he was facing. I thank him for the good work he has done in our mighty military since he joined in 1998. God bless UPDF!” he posted.
However, Gen Muhoozi didn’t mention whether he would reinstate Maj Gen Nabasa in his old position or transfer him to another department after his release.
Maj. Gen Nabasa was arrested alongside Brig Johnson Namanya Abaho over alleged corruption related offences on March 27th.
Gen Muhoozi, however a few days later cleared Brig Johnson Namanya Abaho and cleared him of allegations that had been levelled against him after a meeting between the two Generals, and reinstated him in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he is the Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
According to sources privy to the arrests, the two senior officers were held at the SFC Kasenyi military detainment along Entebbe road.
Since taking office as the CDF, Gen Muhoozi has overseen a number of changes in the force who according to insiders, say is meant to ensure internal accountability measures within the military hierarchy.
