The remains of Timothy Magambo, the late son to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Maj. Tom Magambo has arrived in the country, following his tragic drowning during a swimming outing with friends in Long Island waters, in the United States last week.
According to Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, who received the body on behalf of the family, the body arrived at 2am on Tuesday.
Balaam revealed that a Holy Mass will be held today at 9:00am at Mbuya Catholic Parish.
Thereafter, the body will travel to Masindi Municipality, Kisarabwire Village, where a vigil will be held on Wednesday at Tom Magambo’s family home.
“Burial will take place on Thursday at 2:00pm in Kisarabwire, Masindi, about 2km from Masindi Municipality” he said.
Timothy Magambo, who was residing in Pelham, had just completed his first year at the University at Albany in New York.
Magambo was part of a group of seven people who decided to swim from Wades Beach to Shell Beach, across a channel, but as they were swimming, Magambo became separated from the rest of the group.
According to authorities in the US, Magambo turned around and headed back for Wades Beach, according.
When the rest of his group couldn’t find him, they reported Magambo missing then located him shortly afterward floating face down several hundreds yards south of where he was last seen, police said.
Bystanders brought him back to shore, performed emergency life-saving measures, and called 911, News 12 reported.
However, Magambo died at South Shore University Hospital from injuries consistent with drowning, authorities said.
