A joint security team led by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), with support from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and other state security agencies, has raided former Speaker Anita Annet Among home in Nakasero as the probe into alleged corruption by the former Speaker of Parliament expands.
According to sources, the operation which began Saturday afternoon scrutinised documents and property linked to the former Speaker.
Authorities confirmed the raid is linked to a probe into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering, intensifying scrutiny on the former parliamentary leader.
On Friday, the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, confirmed that the inspectorate is carrying out investigations on Speaker Anita Annette Among’s wealth, following recent public complaints about her lifestyle.
While addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre, Justice Naluzze confirmed receiving a petition from six lawyers recently, seeking her to provide them with details of Speaker Anita Annette Among’s wealth after she allegedly failed or under declared her wealth.
“I just want to confirm that we received the complaint. When we receive complaints, we have a procedure for processing them. We received the complaint and we are processing it” she said.
Justice Naluzze, further called upon members of the public to support enforcement of the Leadership Code by reporting public officers with suspected unexplained wealth, flamboyant lifestyles, or undeclared assets for investigation.
