Pope Leo XIV has appointed Polish Archbishop Tomasz Grysa as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, marking a significant new chapter in relations between the Holy See and the Ugandan Catholic Church.
Archbishop Tomasz Grysa appointment was announced by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, the in charge of the Apostolic Nunciature, in a brief statement on Thursday.
“The Holy Father Pope Leo XIV has appointed His Excellency Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa, Titular Archbishop of Rubicon, as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda” he said.
Until his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, His Excellency Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa has been Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar, Seychelles and the Republic of Mauritius, and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion.
Born on 16th October 1970 in Poznán (Poland), he was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Poznán on 25th May 1995.
The new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda has a doctorate in Canon Law. He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1st July 2001.
Having served in different Pontifical Representations – Russian Federation, India, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, UN Permanent Mission (New York), Israel – and Apostolic Delegation in Jerusalem and Palestine, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros and La Réunion on 27th September 2022.
Subsequently he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Seychelles on 9th February 2023 and then to the Republic of Mauritius on 21st March 2023.
The new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda apart from Polish knows Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
