The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has withdrawn its earlier endorsement of Rt Hon Anita Among and Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa for speaker and deputy speaker of the 12 parliament.
According to the PLU General Secretary David Kabanda, the move follows guidance from the
Chairman PLU, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“That the endorsement of Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, as candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the 12th Parliament of Uganda vide a letter dated 11th March,2026 is retracted and withdrawn with immediate effect” he said.
Kabanda further encouraged PLU elected legislators to support candidates, that will be presented to them by President Museveni for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
“That in the PLU, we follow the command, instructions and guidance of our Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at all times” he said.
On 11th March, 2026 the Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba guided that all PLU leaning Hon. Members elect should support the Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among for Speaker and Rt. Hon. Tayebwa Thomas for Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda.
Recently, pressure on Among has intensified following public outrage over reports that she had acquired a Rolls Royce reportedly worth about UGX 3.4 billion and imported from Britain. However, Among reportedly said the luxury vehicle was a gift.
