As the race for the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament comes into the final bend, the Chief of Defence Forces (UPDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ended his support of incumbent Speaker Anita Annet Among in a series of posts on his X account.
Gen Muhoozi throughout the weekend initially implored all Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) MPs and PLU leaning MPs would vote for whoever President Museveni endorses, before announcing that PLU had it’s own candidate and on Monday revealed that he had never sat in a Rolls Royce vehicle, a car which Speaker Among recently received as a gift.
“I have been Mzee’s son for 52 years but I have never sat in a rolls royce ever. I don’t think Mzee has sat in one either” Muhoozi posted on his X page on Monday.
Gen Muhoozi, in a follow up post, urged public servants to serve the citizens.
“Our job is to SERVE Ugandans not ourselves! I cannot support corruption! I risked my life to make this country peaceful. Now that it is, it will not be taken by thieves. Never!” he posted.
The Rolls Royce, is an ultra-luxury vehicle associated globally with wealth and prestige, featuring rear executive seating, high-end leather interiors, advanced infotainment systems, air suspension technology, collision warning systems and a powerful V12 engine.
On Sunday, Gen Muhoozi declared that the youthful NRM Pressure group, PLU had it’s own candidates for both the speaker and deputy speakership positions, although he didn’t divulge who it was, the announcement was backed by PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda.
“We have another candidate…call him/her the PLU candidate” Muhoozi posted.
In reply, Kabanda states that, “The PLU Candidates for Speakership shall win Massively”.
The shift in the backing of NRM candidates in the speakership by the PLU is set to open the race up, if earlier remarks by it’s Secretary General Kabanda, who alleged that the pressure group already has 302 MPs in the 12th Parliament are to go by.
