The Wakiso District Police has in custody three family members, over the alleged torture of a 10 year old boy after he reportedly stole UGX 47,000, from his uncle’s home.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala, the suspects who include the victim’s uncle Mutantuzi Matovu, his wife Rebecca Tusubira, and father Farouk Muwanguzi, were arrested after authorities received information that a male juvenile was being tortured by his guardians in Nkoowe Village, Kaliiti Parish, Mende Sub-county in Wakiso District.
“The incident was reported to police on May 7, 2026 at about 10:00 a.m., preliminary investigations indicate that on April 30, 2026, Muwanguzi Matovu, a 30-year-old mechanic and resident of Nkoowe Village, allegedly tortured his brother’s son, who had been placed under his care, causing severe injuries to both of the child’s hands” she said.
It’s reported that Muwanguzi Matovu accused his nephew, who had been living under his care of stealing the UGX 47,000 from the family home.
Muwanguzi allegedly tied his nephew to a window using a rubber string and in an attempt to escape, the child reportedly suffered additional injuries.
Kawala who condemning the act, revealed that the boy was later rescued and rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Police annual crime data shows that a total of 710 cases of child abuse and torture were reported in 2025, compared to 787 cases in 2024.
