As the public murder trial of Christopher Okello Onyum, the main suspect in the murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development centre continues, the thirteenth prosecution witness, Emmanuel Odong from the Directorate of ICT, has pinned Okello’s movements to the murder scene.
While giving his testimony on Monday, Odong revealed that CCTV footage shows the movements of a Toyota RAV4 allegedly driven by Okello a day before carrying out the act, including the vehicle being parked and the suspect walking away before returning minutes later.
The footage showed the vehicle traveling through key locations including Nakawa, New Vision Junction, Kisugu, Namuwongo, and Shell Jinja Road, heading toward the area near the crime scene. Further footage from April 2, 2026, the day of the killings, was also presented, reportedly showing a man identified as Okello on a boda boda, carrying a bag and wearing a checked shirt in the vicinity of the daycare.
The footage also shows how the three victims were rushed to Wentz Medical Center after the attack, with prosecution reiterating that the footage is a key piece of evidence in the case by helping to reconstruct his movements in the lead-up to and on the day of the murders.
The prosecution bolstered the CCTV evidence with testimony from Hashim Juma, a car rental director, told court that he had hired the RAV4 but repeatedly reported mechanical failures, eventually parking it at a Shell station on Jinja Road and only saw news two days later that Okello had killed toddlers at the school.
Another witness, Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police James Eserait, attached to Kabalagala Police Station, has told the court that he was the first officer to arrive at the scene where he found the accused, Christopher Okello.
He testified that during their initial interaction, Okello allegedly confessed, saying he had been driven by a desire for wealth and had spent a considerable amount of time planning the alleged act and also called the police emergency line after noticing a crowd gathering.
According to Eserait, Okello further disclosed that he had purchased several knives, some of which he allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
Upon search of the suspects house, several items, including six additional knives, two U.S. passports, and other materials considered of evidential value, were recovered and have been presented before court today.
Okello is charged with four counts of murder, contrary to section 171 and 172 of the penal code act, cap 128.
Prosecution told court that Okello on the second day of April this year at Ggaba Early Childhood Development centre, Ggaba trading zone, Ggaba parish, Makindye Division Kampala district, with malice aforethought unlawfully caused deaths of Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenoroth, Sseruynage Ignatius, and Odeke Rayan.
