Jinja Road has arrested three men in connection with impersonating the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba on social media to con unsuspecting people.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Kawala Rachael, the suspects were arrested on 24th March 2026 and have been identified as Ariho Abubakar Uthmaan, Bukenya Fayim, and Kaweesi Dalton.
“It is alleged that the trio has been impersonating the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, on various social media platforms with the intent to extort money from police officers and members of the public” she said.
Kawala noted that a impersonation has since been registered.
“A search conducted at the suspects’ premises led to the recovery of electronic devices and documents believed to have been used in the commission of the crime” she said.
Kawala noted that investigations into the case are ongoing.
