On Tuesday, the court granted Ssebuwufu who was arrested on January 14th, a day before the elections, a cash bail of UGX 500,000.

The court further asked the politician to upload his National ID on Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS), but Mr Ssebuwufu said he lost his ID during his arrest.

Following his arrest by security forces, Ssebuwufu was held in an unknown facility before he was arraigned at Nakawa Court on February 6, 2026 on charges of incitement to violence contrary to section 79 (1) of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128, which he denied and was remanded to Luzira.

According to prosecution, in the month of November and December 2025 at various places in Kampala, Mukono, Masaka, Mpigi, Ssebuwufu incited people to attack the supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Ssebuwufu is one of the four senior leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP), facing charges including inciting violence to terrorism linked to the 2026 General Election, three of them have been granted bail while Butambala County MP and NUP Vice President for the Central Region Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi remains incarcerated at Kitalya Prison.

Kivumbi’s terrorism case alongside 24 others, including two minors is being heard before the Butambala Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejjemba’s court.
