The High Court in Kampala has nullified National Unity Platform’s Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi’s election as Kawempe North MP and ordered a by-election following a petition by NRM’s Faridah Nambi.
According to the Monday judgment by High Court Judge Bernard Namanya which he delivered via email, court ordered that the election of Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola as a directly elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District is set aside.
Justice Namanya further ordered that the seat for the Kawempe North MP is declared vacant.
“That the Electoral Commission is ordered to conduct a fresh election for the Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District” he said.
Justice Namanya further noted that each party shall meet it’s own costs.
However, a few minutes after the judgment, netizens have taken to the internet to warn of the possibility of more violence in the next by elections as seen recently.
