President Yoweri Museveni has appointed veteran journalist Allan Kasujja as the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, replacing Ofwono Opondo who resigned from the role to join politics last year.
In a letter dated December 27, 2025 addressed to the Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, President Museveni directed the Minister of Information and Communication Technology and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, to appoint Allan Kasujja as the Media Centre’s new Executive Director.
“I have received your letter dated the 27th November, 2025, regarding the Media Centre. I was not aware of the on-going manoeuvres, however, some weeks ago, we had discussed the idea of Allan Kasujja with you,” President Museveni wrote.
President Museveni further ordered Min Baryomunsi to begin the formal appointment process for Kasujja and start considering his deputy.
“By copy of this letter, I direct Dr. Chris Baryomunsi to initiate the procedures for appointing Allan Kasujja and, additionally, assessing others who could serve as Deputy,” the President ordered.
Former
Media Centre boss Ofwono Opondo, who resigned in April 2025 has since been elected unopposed as the Member of Parliament representing Older Persons for Eastern Uganda.
Kasujja’s Media Career
Kasujja began his media career in the 1990s at Sanyu FM and has worked across television and radio in Uganda.
He previously hosted the morning radio show The Big Breakfast on 91.3 Capital FM alongside Jackie Lumbasi and Ramesh Gabalsing, and has presented the Ugandan version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? since 2011.
Since 2012, Kasujja has been based in London, where he was a senior presenter on the World Service’s Newsday programme and hosted the Africa Daily podcast.
Kasujja co-moderated Uganda’s first-ever televised presidential debate alongside KTN journalist Nancy Kacungira On January 15, 2016.
He left the BBC in August 2025.
