The Busiro South Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Matovu is currently nursing wounds after allegedly being attacked by UPDF soldiers along with members of his entourage following campaigns on Wednesday evening.
According to the National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Matovu the incumbent and party’s flag bearer for the post was waylaid on the road and beaten alongside close to twenty members of his campaign team as they returned from a campaign event.
“As they returned from a campaign event, they were waylaid by soldiers who whipped them for several hours – asking them why they’re promoting NUP and its leader Bobi Wine in that area. They were insulted, assaulted, and robbed by men in uniform!” Rubongoya posted.
Rubongonya revealed that Matovu together with other members of his team are currently receiving treatment at Mengo Hospital in Kampala.
“We’ve checked on them at Mengo Hospital, where they’re receiving treatment. They’re in great pain. Hopefully, in 21 days, the people of Uganda will speak with one voice and bring this nightmare to an end” Rubongoya posted on his X account on Thursday.
By the time of this publication, the UPDF was yet to give comment on their alleged brutalisation of the legislator.
