Barely a day after a YY Bus overturned and killed at least three people and injured up to 30 passengers at Buikwe, another tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when a fatal road accident occurred at Igogero swamp claiming the lives of at least five people.
According to eyewitness reports, the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Hiace ‘Drone’ UBR 385J tried to overtake a trailer No. UBB 838H which was pulling another trailer UAD 390J on the Tororo -Iganga Highway but failed to swerving into the rear of the trailer.
The Busoga East Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kafayo revealed that preliminary reports indicate that; Both vehicles were moving in the same direction towards Iganga but upon reaching Igogero swamp, the drone driver tried to overtake the trailer but when he realized that another vehicle was coming from the opposite direction, he swerved back to his lane and ended up knocking the trailer from behind!”.
Mr Kafayo noted that the 4 survivors (one female & three males) were rushed to Bugiri hospital while the bodies were taken to the Bugiri hospital mortuary.
