Businessman and Honorary Consul of Eswatini in Uganda Quilino Bamwine has been fired by the Kingdom of Eswatini over alleged fraud and illegal land dealings.
In the letter dated October 31, 2025, Eswatini’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mahlaba A. Mamba, revealed that the southern African state revoked the appointment of Bamwine as it’s Consul in Uganda after he failed to respond to earlier warnings served to him.
Mamba noted that Bamwine declined to heed to warnings of the alleged illicit activities despite repeated interventions by Ugandan authorities which has since attracted additional allegations of serious misconduct including extortion, fraud, and other criminal activities to emerge.
“Of particular concern are reports implicating you in a land transaction that appears to constitute a criminal act. The Embassy has been left with no option but to report your alleged misconduct to the relevant authorities,” he wrote, adding that Eswatini’s government had “advised that we revoke your appointment as Honorary Consul… with immediate effect” Part of the letter reads.
Recently Dismissed Ugandan Ambassadors
The dismissal of Baine is set to further paint a gloomy image over the quality of diplomats Uganda sends to other countries as it’s representatives.
Recently Uganda’s ambassador to Canada Joy Ruth Acheng was dismissed from her post after she openly confronted supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) on the streets of Ottawa, the country’s capital city.
Uganda’s former consul general to Dubai Henry Mayega, was in the news over allegedly opening a casino at the consulate in Dubai.
