Following country wide condemnation of Police officers seen in two viral videos defacing National Unity Platform (NUP) Presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s posters and shooting at his supporters, the police has bowed to public pressure, launching investigations into it’s men.
The two videos recorded by onlookers on Wednesday, in Kampala and Mbale cities show the trigger happy blue eyed boys assault Bobi Wine’s supporters and tear his posters with their guns before shooting at the supporters in one of the videos who were peacefully celebrating his nomination.
In a statement released on Thursday, the force said it had taken note of the two videos circulating on social media, showing police officers allegedly tearing a candidate’s poster during operations.
“These incidents reportedly took place yesterday, 24 September 2025, in Mbale City and the Central Business District of Kampala City”.
The statement further read, “The footages show an altercation occurred between police officers and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP), leading to the dispersal of the supporters. During this process, some campaign materials were damaged”.
The police further noted that it has launched an investigation into these allegations, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
However, upon close scrutiny of the two videos, it’s the police officers seen violently attacking the NUP supporters who were rolling the posters around peacefully before the police officers in both videos pounce on the posters and start defacing them without provocation.
With the police narrative showing an altercation occurred before the defacing and shooting happening in the video, netizens on social media X platform have become skeptical of the outcomes of the investigations.
The footage, widely shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, has already triggered heated debate, with NUP supporters accusing police of political bias and targeting opposition candidates ahead of the 2026 general elections.
