The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uganda Airlines Jenifer Bamuturaki and her top management have snubbed a meeting before the Parliament’s Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) where they were supposed to appear to respond to queries raised in the Auditor General’s 2023/24 Report.
While appearing before the same committee last week, Bamuturaki shocked members of COSASE when she attributed the UGX 237.855 billion loss the company made in 2024 on the high costs of fuel, crew allowances and aircraft depreciation.
She further revealed that the national carrier is set to retire its fleet of Bombardier CRJ 900 jets due to mounting challenges in sourcing spare parts.
However, Bamuturaki and her top management officials were a no show at the Tuesday meeting without any communication made to the committee.
According to Parliament Watch Uganda, the committee chairperson Medard Lubega Ssegona, has in fresh communication instructed Jenifer Bamuturaki and her top management officials to appear before the committee without fail on Wednesday.
“Tomorrow we are supposed to have Uganda Revenue Authority. While I was here I received a call from the OCG that has been summoned to the Prime Minister’s office over the strike. You know there’s a section of traders that have gone on strike today. Can’t we substitute and recall this particular agency tomorrow without fail? Let her come here with the former accounting officer and the task force as we advised last time and please inform her that failure to turn up, the committee will invoke stronger measures,” said Sseggona.
While addressing journalists after, Shakila Rahim Lamar, Head of Corporate Affairs & Public Relations- Uganda Airlines denied allegations that officials from the national Airline deliberately snubbed today’s meeting with COSASE attributing it to a mix up in the communication between the entity and the Committee claiming the Parliament’s invitation had scheduled the said meeting at 12:00PM, something that saw them arrive at 11:30am.
