The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has charged and remanded the Uganda Police Commissioner of Human Resources Eldard Mugume, to Luzira Prison over abuse of office.

Court heard that Mugume along with Ms Lillian Waidha, illegally recruited individuals into the force between February and March 2013.

On the same day, retired police sergeant Oyet Francis pleaded guilty to having withdrawn over UGX 20 million from his account for three years between September 2020 and October 2023after retiring.

Court heard that Oyet, continued to receive salary payments from the Government of Uganda despite having voluntarily resigned from the police force.

On Tuesday, the same court, charged and remanded the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Human Resource Manager Ms Jennifer Etit Okaka, over corruption, causing financial loss, and abuse of office.

The cases are part of a broader crackdown on nine officials across various government agencies including UCAA facing charges related to a payroll scam that allegedly caused the state a UGX 53 billion loss.
