The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mr Tanga Odoi, has turned away a 30 year old man Mr Briton Kiwanuka who had gone to collect nomination forms to contest for the party’s National Chairperson seat which has for long been held by President Yoweri Museveni.
Mr Odoi told Kiwanuka that the secretariat had run out of application forms for the post and that the forms would only be available on Friday for collection before midday.
Odoi further said the documents must undergo security clearance procedures and will feature security marks to ensure authenticity.
Kiwanuka who had turned up at the kyambogo offices with at least a dozen supporters expressed dissatisfaction with the NRM electoral commission turning him away.
“I cannot pay UGX 20 million and then be told there are no forms, especially in this tough economy, I heard they gave my mentor, Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, nomination forms on Saturday June 28th, so they print only one form? That is my question” he said.
On Saturday, President Museveni escorted by his wife and other top NRM officials picked his nomination forms to contest for both the party chairperson and the NRM presidential flag bearer in the 2026 general elections, parting with UGX 40 million for the two positions he has held since the NRM party was formed.
