The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has revealed that more guns have been discovered in another home of wanted former Deputy CDF Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, who is currently on the run over alleged treachery and criminality.
“In our continuing operation to dismantle Private Elweru’s treachery and criminality. We have seized more guns and ammunition he had stashed away in different places. We have also arrested his driver and seized the last vehicle he was using” he said.
Gen Muhoozi further warned anybody aiding Elwelu, whom he recently stripped of his rank to a private.
“Anyone who aids this fugitive in any way will face serious consequences. Otherwise, I thank all our supporters in Teso for all the information they are giving us” he said.

Muhoozi, who in a follow up post revealed that he had ordered his soldiers not to kill Elwelu, but rather take him alive in order for the CDF to have a conversation with him.
“I have told our soldiers not to kill Elweru but to bring him to me alive. I want to talk to him” said.
The CDF has further revealed plans to have soldiers who are promoted to the rank of General, to first undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine their mental health.

“From now on before one is promoted to the rank of General in UPDF, they will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if they are sane or not? We will not have another loony like Elweru. Also, from today all UPDF senior officers will take annual fitness tests” he said.
On Tuesday, soldiers under Gen Muhoozi’s command raided one of Elwelu’s homes in Teso recovering a number of firearms and ammunition.
Muhoozi also announced the arrest of over 20 of Elweru’s former soldiers, noting that they were co-operating well with the investigations and unanimously agreed that Elwelu had gone insane a long time ago.
“Elweru should SURRENDER soon in order to save his own life” Gen Muhoozi posted on X.
Despite the continued warnings to surrender, Gen Elwelu remains in hiding.
