The Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested three suspected members of a gang believed to have been involved in a series of robberies targeting people carrying money on motorcycles in areas of KMP East.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the arrests follow investigations into a robbery incident that occurred on August 17th along Bukoto Heights, where a cashier from Tilupati was attacked by two people travelling on a motorcycle while she was on her way to the bank.
“The suspects grabbed her bag containing approximately UGX 22 million and fled. The case was registered at Kira Road Police Station” he said.
Owoyesigyire noted that police arrested two suspects and recovered one motorcycle believed to have been used in the robberies on September 19th, while another suspect was arrested and two additional motorcycles were recovered on September 24th.
“The three suspects have been identified as Byanyima Sadic, Waibale Joseph and Kisongode Ivan, all of whom are alleged to have participated in the robberies as motorcycle riders” he said.
Owoyesigyire, noted that preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects have also been linked to other robbery incidents, including the theft of approximately UGX 10 million from a person carrying money from a bank in the Mpererwe area in January 2026, as well as a robbery involving a Nigerian national along the US Embassy area on August 24th.
“Police have so far impounded four motorcycles believed to have been used by the gang: UMA 366LZ, UMA 018MX, UMA 073NP and UMA 018NX, all reportedly of the Haojue make” he said.
He added, “Investigations further indicate that the gang operated with the assistance of other suspects who are still at large. Police are actively pursuing them to establish their individual roles and bring them to justice”.
Owoyesigyire said the suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, and will be taken to court upon completion of the necessary inquiries.
