The Jinja Road Police has arrested the driver of motor vehicle registration number UA 945EW, a white Toyota Hilux Double Cabin, after it crahed into a boda boda carrying three pupils, killing the rider on the spot on near Muggies Hotel along Mutungo-Biina Road, Nakawa Division, Kampala District at around 7:30 pm on Friday.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Pro, Kawala Racheal preliminary findings, indicate that the driver Mulema Dennis, was travelling from Biina towards Mutungo when he allegedly collided with motorcycle UMA 530LD, which was carrying the three pupils.
“The motorcycle rider identified as Muhindo Reagan, 22, a resident of Kasokoso, Wakiso District died at the scene” she said.
She added, “Three pupils of Kiswa Primary School, aged 7, 13 and 13 years, were also injured in the accident. Preliminary information indicates that the pupils were travelling to school in the Bugolobi area of Nakawa Division at the time of the incident”.
Kawala said the three pupils sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical attention.
“The preliminary cause of the accident is suspected to be careless driving. However, investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and determine the exact cause” she said.
Kawala noted that Mulema Dennis, is currently in police custody pending completion of investigations and subsequent court proceedings.
