There was momentarily pause in court proceedings on Monday after jailed shoemaker and National Unity Platform (NUP) member Mr Juma Musuuza alias Madubarah asked court to stand over his hearing without the presence of his lead lawyer Mr. Jonathan Elotu.
During the hearing where the state was supposed to present it’s final witness, an officer at the Makerere University School of Humanities and Language, Musuuza told court that he wasn’t comfortable to proceed with the hearing with only the second defence lawyer Ms Mercy Kwagala present.
“Counsel Mercy was just added to my case, for me the lawyer I know is counsel Jonathan, counsel Mercy came after” Musuuza told court.
Ms Kwagala informed court that the lead lawyer in the case, Mr Elotu Jonathan was indisposed due to ill health and had requested her to represent Musuuza during Monday’s hearing.
However, the Entebbe Senior Magistrate Grade one, Edgar Tibayeita Tusiime further remanded Madubarah until 30th June this month for hearing of the case on his own request.
Madubarah is charged with hate speech and spreading malicious information about President Yoweri Museveni, first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Speaker Anita Among.
Court heard that in October last year, Musuuza, while in Wakiso district or thereabout using Tik Tok account Madubarah UG through a computer sent or shared information which is likely to ridicule, degrade or demean the trio.
