A member of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party has been arrested by the Police, following the sealing off of the party offices at Plot 6, Katonga Road, in Nakasero on Monday.
In a post on their X account, the party expressed dismay at the force which has arrested one of it’s activists identified as Maddo Isaac, instead of providing security to party members for their planned peaceful procession, from the party offices to the Chief Justice’s office.
“Instead of providing the security we formally requested to safely deliver our petition to the Chief Justice, the Uganda Police Force has cordoned our headquarters at Plot 6, Katonga road. One of our activists Maddo Isaac has been violently bundled up and detained simply for attempting to access our offices”.
“This blatant lawlessness and abuse of power will not silence us. We stand firm, and we shall not tire. Details follow and the further steps we shall be taking” the party said.
Last week, the PFF Deputy Chairman for Buganda, Hon. Dr. Lulume Bayiga, revealed that the party had formally written to the Police notifying the IGP of their peaceful procession scheduled on Monday at 11:00 AM, from the People’s Front for Freedom offices to the Chief Justice’s office.
Dr Bayiga noted that the procession is in support of the call for the release the party’s leaders who include Dr. Kizza Besigye, Hajji Obeid Lutale and Hon. Erias Lukwago on bail.
“We trust that the police will facilitate and guide the procession peacefully, while ensuring that unrelated individuals or groups do not interfere with or get mixed up with our procession” Bayiga said at the time.
Currently, heavy anti-riot police are still cordoning off the PFF offices on Katonga Road.
