The Police in Kampala has in custody one suspect identified as Kuteeka Hassan, over robbing a 17 year old girl of her hand bag and possessing an identification card (No. CID 006) bearing a police logo for the Criminal Investigations Department, with his name inscribed on it.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Kawala Rachael, Kuteeka a 38-year-old resident of Musibula Zone, Rubaga Division, was arrested following a tip off from bag the snatching victim on Wednesday.
“His arrest is linked to a bag-snatching incident that occurred in January 2026, involving a 17-year-old victim at the Nateete traffic lights. The perpetrators were reportedly travelling in a motor vehicle, registration number UAQ 950P (Toyota Golf)” she said.
Kawala noted that on Wednesday at about 4pm, the victim spotted the same vehicle and promptly alerted the police.
“Officers responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of one suspect. Upon a search, he was found in possession of the said identification card, impersonating a police officer” she said.
Kawala noted that a case of personation has since been registered, and investigations are ongoing into the case.
