Health experts have urged residents of Entebbe Municipality to carry our regular health check ups in order to curb potential disease scares and live healthier lives.
The District Governor of Lions Clubs International Ms Allen Tush Naturinda said regular check-ups will help reduce on the number community members who are likely to end up hospitalised with extreme disease conditions and incurring high medical bills on treatment.
“Many people suffer from different illnesses out there and they at times fail to go the hospitals fearing the high costs of treatment, that’s why when they hear of a chance to get that treatment for free they always turn up in large numbers for the health camps” she said.
She added, “Those we find with medical issues are treated from here while those who are unable to receive treatment here are referred to institutional hospitals for better health care”.
Ms Naturinda made the remarks during a free medical camp organised by the Lions club Entebbe which saw more than 1,000 people receive treatment and medical services that included childhood cancer awareness, eye care, dental care, ENT (Ear, nose and throat), diabetes screening and blood check-up, and body mass index.
Ms Naturinda said there is need for legislators to come up with a health insurance policy that will ensure all Ugandans access treatment.
“We only add a little to what government offers but it would even be better, if legislators could also join us the impact would be better. I cannot influence policy but if Members of Parliament could see to it that there is a small insurance for the elderly and those unable to afford treatment to access it, health services provision could improve” she said.
Ms Naturinda who also visited the clubs elderly home where she planted a tree urged youth members of the Lions Club (Leo’s) to promote good ethical behaviours amongst themselves which in turn help them continue serving humanity.

The President Lions Club Entebbe Dr Edwin Nuwagaba said the health camp is carried out every year in different parts providing free medication and sensitising people on how to live healthier lives, while urging communities on environmental conservation and counselling youths in schools
“People have many issues health wise and the government is in need of more partners to support the initiative and help because there are a number of people in need of health services in different parts” he said.
