The High Court in Kampala presided over by Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, has ruled that Molly Katanga and her four co-accused have a case to answer in the murder of her late husband Henry Katanga in November, 2023.
During a hearing on Thursday, Justice Kania noted that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence during the trial, which required Molly Katanga to defend herself against the murder charge while her daughters Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi, the family shamba boy George Amanyire, as well as the family Doctor Charles Otai, have a case to answer for allegedly destroying evidence and assisting the widow in avoiding punishment.
Justice Kania noted that evidence before court showed that Molly Katanga was the last person seen with the deceased on November 2, 2023, the day Henry Katanga was fatally shot at their home in Mbuya, Kampala.
The judge cited forensic evidence placing Molly Katanga at the centre of the incident, including the presence of gunshot residue on her hands and her DNA on the pistol registered in the deceased’s name.
“The accused is required to explain how she was attacked, yet there were no signs of disturbance in the bedroom,” the judge ruled.
Justice Kania adjourned the trial until March 26, 2026, when the five accused will start their defence in the murder of the late Henry Katanga.
