The former house help of the late Uganda Christian University (UCU) Director of Student Affairs, Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, Taewaiko Dak Hussein, who is the main suspect in her murder has revealed that he killed her over UGX 800,000 arrears she owed him.
On Wednesday, Taewaiko who was arrested in Budaka District by a joint security task force on February 14th after being tracked to his mother’s home, was taken back to the deceased’s home by police detectives to reconstruct the scene of crime.
It was during the crime of scene reconstruction that Taewaiko confessed to detectives how he killed the late Tumwebaze over the UGX 800,000 she owed him for domestic work at the home after scaling over the fence to access the house.
Taewaiko told detectives that he first knocked at the door, trying to gain entry for several minutes without response before moving to the wall fence near a mango, from where he jumped into the home.
After jumping into the compound, he encountered the family dog, which didn’t bark because it was familiar with him and thereafter moved behind the house, towards the tank where he was able to see the new house maid in the kitchen, removed his slippers to avoid noise and thereafter moved into the house.
Once inside the house, Taewaiko said he moved directly to the bedroom where he hid until the deceased went to the bedroom to sleep, only to be shocked at the sight of Taewaiko in her bedroom, which prompted her to ask what he was doing there, to which he replied that he had come to demand for his arrears which he had worked for at the home in the past.
Tumwebaze was attacked by thugs at her home in Mukono and was rushed to the Church of Uganda Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
According to preliminary police reports, police received information at 3am on Wednesday, informing them that unknown people had gained entry into her house and strangled her at around 2am.
Upon his arrest in Budaka, Taewaiko was found with a number of the deceased’s belongings and was transferred back to Kampala to help in the investigations.
He is expected to be arraigned in court soon for formal charging over the murder.
