The acting Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson, Col. Chris Magezi, has revealed that the late deputy commander land forces, Maj Gen Francis Takirwa died from stroke related complications on Saturday morning.
In a brief statement released following the news of Takirwa’s passing, Col. Magezi noted that Maj Gen Takirwa died at 6am from complications of stroke at UPDF National Referral Hospital Mbuya where he had been referred to on Friday from Nakasero Hospital.
“The General was initially admitted at Nakasero Hospital from December 9, 2025 until yesterday, Friday, February 6, 2026 when he was referred to the UPDF facility for long term care and management” he said.
Col Magezi revealed that Major General Takirwa served as the Deputy Commander of the UPDF Land Forces headquartered in Bombo until his illness.
“We condole with his family, relatives, and friends” he said.
Col Magezi said details of Takirwa’s burial arrangements will be communicated later.
