With barely a fortnight to the highly anticipated 5th July JICO League Season Three Finale at Dam Waters Jinja, the forest is seemingly calling the Alumni of Jinja College back to their roots for an explosive finale but the question on all Iguana’s lips is ”Will Mboyo FC finally win the trophy this season?”.
Mboyo FC, the table leaders with 23 points, three ahead of second placed Nvuuyo FC at 20 points, four ahead of the two time winners and reigning champions Solida FC and Mbuyaga FC both at 19points, the Blue Camp as they are popularly known, can lift the Trophy for the first time with 4 points from their last two games against Mbuyaga FC and Mbokya FC on the Finale day for the first time.
While speaking to 360 News UG, Mboyo FC Coach Oteba Martin said the squad was enthusiastic about clinching the title for the first time in Jinja City where it all began from.

“Our players are determined to win the remaining last two games, if the worst comes to the worst, we shall be having a win and a draw that will guarantee us the trophy. In life, People are always given three chances and this is the third season, being the third season when we have always been runners up, this should be our season to lift the trophy” he said.
Oteba further noted that Mboyo’s tactical organization and team work during play will play a vital role in the team’s run for the trophy.
“We have been organized from way back when we joined JICO in Senior one (2006), our team has always been a strong team and it out played and beat the school team in 2007 while we were in our senior 2”.
Oteba called on members and fans of the blue camp to turn up in large numbers, “The Blue camp should turn up in large numbers, wait for the best and then enjoy the celebrations with the team”.
Mboyo team Captain Andrew Buyondo revealed that momentum in the squad has been building and the team is ready to fight hard for their first league trophy.
“As Mboyo we are already set and we know, we are taking the trophy this season, all the players are okay and prepared both mentally and physically to give our best for the last two games to take the Trophy home” Andy as he is popularly known said.

Buyondo noted that a win against Mbuyaga who are also title contenders in their first match is crucial to ensure Mboyo are crowned champions of the league, “I call upon the gallant Blue Army to come in big numbers and support the team, we are ready to face any of the teams on the final day whether they bring many Bacubasor not”.
On why the organizing committe choose Jinja City for the Season III Finale and not Time Out Leisure Park, Mbalwa, the League Public Relations Officer and LXG skipper Yusuf Masaba told 360 News UG that the finale will not only serve as a fun unifying meetup for all alumni but will also be this year’s homecoming.
“Jinja College is not only a school for people who come from Kampala and many of our OBs who come from Jinja, who come from the East and other areas, have never experienced what we experience at every end of month” he said.

Masaba added, “Two, because we want them to also come, but it’s home. So we have combined it. We are going to have even the homecoming this time around because we thought mobilising people again once we leave is going to be very hard. So we decided that let’s merge the homecoming for the Jinja College alumni and also the JICO league grand final, so it’s going to be a two-way traffic”.
Masa further said the finale will help the JICO alumni give back to the Jinja community and put a brick on developing the society.

“We decided to partner with the school to see that we can involve ourselves in kinds of activities like tree planting. We are also discussing with the district local authorities to see if we can do some safety awareness, probably paint some zebra crossings, or give back to any communities that are nearby, maybe a health centre” he said.
Currently the drive to the Finale is gaining more momentum each day with the league securing more sponsorship with companies like MTN Momo, Galaxy TV, and Uganda Breweries Ltd to ensure the Iguanas have a blast.
